About this service

A space that can be just about anything.

Unlike other areas of the home, basements are not limited to one specific purpose; where bedrooms are for sleeping, bathrooms are for washing, and kitchens are for cooking, a basement can be just about anything you can imagine.

That freedom is the hard part. The right plan depends on how your family actually lives: a media room, a guest suite, a gym, a play area, an office, or a mix of all of them. We work that out with you before anything is framed, because moving a wall on paper costs nothing.

Picking the right use for the space

Bars and media space

A bar and a comfortable seating area are still the most requested basement features, and for good reason: they turn the floor nobody used into the room everyone ends up in. Once the space is properly waterproofed, we build the bar, the media wall and the lighting into the layout, leaving room for a pool table or a home gym if that is on your list.

A basement also holds a steady temperature year round, which makes it the natural place for a wine room if you want one.

One basement, several jobs

The basements that get used are the ones that do more than one thing: a guest room that doubles as an office, a play area beside the media space, a gym behind a glass wall. Planning for two or three uses from the start is what keeps the space busy years later.

Soundproofing is what makes that work. It lets a band practise, a treadmill run or a movie play without the rest of the house hearing it, and it costs far less to build in now than to add later.

What the work covers

Planned before the first stud goes up.

Waterproofing, the trades, the finishes and the cleanup, handled by the same team from the first visit to the day you use the space.

Moisture control first

Waterproofing and moisture control best practices go in before the finishes, so the space stays dry for the long term.

Soundproofing

Soundproofing expands what the space can be used for without limiting how it looks, from practicing bands to power tools.

Bars and entertaining space

Bars, media walls and room for a pool table, built into the layout rather than added on afterwards.

Guest and multi-use rooms

A place to gather, work out or put up a visitor from out of town, planned so the investment gets used.

Electrical and plumbing

We handle the electrical and plumbing upgrades a finished basement needs, including a bathroom or wet bar rough-in.

Permit coordination

Where the work needs permits, we coordinate them through the drafting and permitting associations we work with.

How your basement renovation runs

Five stages, start to finish.

You know what happens next at every point, and who is responsible for it.

Stage 1

Free in-home consultation

We visit your home to understand the space, the budget and the goal. Mapping the whole renovation in detail before work starts is how the budget and the timeline hold.

Stage 2

Design and planning

After assessing every aspect of the home, we help with material and design selection, using our in-house resources or your preferred design partner, with vendor discounts passed on to you.

Stage 3

Construction permits

Where a basement involves structural changes or mechanical work, permits are required. We work with drafting and permitting associations to obtain them on your behalf.

Stage 4

Construction and daily site management

Work areas are sealed off and the site is cleaned daily to control dust. Isolated work zones keep water and electricity running for the rest of the house, and the owner inspects the site personally for safety.

Stage 5

Final walkthrough and cleanup

We remove all construction debris and walk the finished space with you. If something comes up later, we stand behind our work.
